Title: God’s Higher Ways and Thoughts
God’s Higher Ways and Thoughts
Pastor Santar Singh’s demeanor as a preacher may come across as gentle but certainly not his stand for God. He does not compromise his teachings to make it easier to go down but in his own style, he makes sure the congregation get his message with plenty of relevant illustrations. He sure did it again this morning and to me it was such an art!
His sermon is based on Isaiah 55:8-9. Although the foregoing verses provided the corner stone of his message, he reminded the congregation that God wants us to know Him better so that we can grow our faith through a firm relationship with him.
Pastor Santar used 2 giant figures from the bible, Abraham and Moses, to illustrate his points but more so he used the latter. He weaved the life of Moses through the 3 points reproduced below.
- God’s higher ways and thoughts in our most vulnerable times.
God showed this during the times after the death of both Joseph and the Pharoah who held Joseph in high regard. It was a vulnerable time for the Israelites with a new Pharoah, who felt the Israelites were a threat, at the helm. God then delivered the people of Israel and as believers we know well how He did this. - God’s higher ways and thoughts in our ignorance.
Pastor Santar used the life of Moses when he killed an Egyptian who was ill- treating his fellow Israelite in the name of justice. Pastor Santar differentiated that Moses’ burden was for one man but God’s concern was for all Israelites. - God’s higher ways and thoughts in our obedience.
Pastor Santar said that Moses was 40 when he killed the Egyptian and for the sake of his life, he had to seek safety in the wilderness and it was not until he was 80 that God called him to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. So, age doesn’t matter to God but we, in the flesh, would only think of a cushy retirement life in our 60s, let alone in our eighties.
My gems for today? I used the plural so there are two.
The words of Hudson Taylor, a British missionary to China whom Pastor Santar quoted - ‘God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply’. Self explanatory isn’t it? It speaks of a God who does not lack. This is the first.
The second one is that when we empty ourselves of the strive/wants/needs/burden/cares (the list goes on) of this life, and we avail ourselves to God, He will fill it up with ‘things’ (for lack of a better word) that will astound you beyond what you dare to imagine! Why? Because God is in your camp!
