The Church God Desires

There were two gems which I picked up from this morning’s message but before I write about them I wish to say I was blessed with the testimony shared by a sister-in-Christ. Indeed nothing is impossible with Jesus!

Pastor Brenda stated right from the onset that when 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, there is your church, even in a prison setting as she is active in prison ministry. It is my first gem as it is a powerful reminder to me that the physical aspect of church is so much taken for granted that if we do not have that, does it mean we cannot build a church that God desires?

The entire sermon was based on Eph 4: 1b-7, 11-16 and the clarity and purpose of the church shone through with her unpacking of the year’s theme with her 2 characteristics of the church that God desires namely, unity and diversity. It is to maintain unity and to exercise diversity.

My second gem was found in Eph 4:3 – ‘Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the spirit, binding yourselves with peace.’ It is a tough call, isn’t it? With so many diverse characters and personalities that make up a church, it is almost impossible but we must call on the Holy Spirit to help us to do just that.
