Title: The Church God Desires
The Church God Desires
One needs to discern between the phrase ‘the church God Desires’ and ‘the church is God’s heart desire’. The former speaks of the kind of church that ticks all the right boxes in God’s eyes whereas the latter centres on what God desires and that is the church.
This was made clear in Sister Catherine’s last slide which summarizes the gist of her sermon on Sunday and which is reproduced below:
- The church is God’s heart desire
- Our body is the temple of God
- Remove the junk from our temple
She made it clear that God desires churches and He even gave up His life for them. I think most believers can identify with her second point and that is each of us is a ‘church’ for God. And since we are all ‘little’ churches, there is a responsibility to keep that church ‘clean’ in His service. Hence it is certainly important to remove whatever junk there is which may impede our own church growth and others.
I like the phrase that the church is God’s heart desire. I then can understand what it means when God speaks to me to direct me how he wants to build his church through me. Isn’t that powerful? He does not need to go through another person and that sweet burden is always present in my heart.
