No Longer Lost
Testimony by Sim Yoke Hwee
I was born in a small town in Malaysia. The town was so small, you can’t even find it on a map. There were no Christians, no churches, nor did any missionaries ever step there. So how did I become a Christian if no one preached to me?
I remember one day, I was studying for my exams, and I was reading my History book. I was about 16 years old then, in Secondary 3. The chapters I was studying were on the major world religions – like Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism. As I read about the lives of the various religious leaders, I was so gripped by the life of Jesus Christ, that I said to myself: “If I have to choose a religion, I would choose to follow Christ!” That was my first encounter with the Lord!
Several months later, I chanced upon a book left on the table by my sister who had just returned from Singapore. I picked it up – the cover read “Holy Bible”. I was curious and I flipped through its pages, and somehow, I turned to the gospels. As I read the gospel story, the Holy Spirit convicted me so much that I started to cry – that was a strange thing for me as I was not the weepy type. I knew then that I wanted God in my life; that I needed a Saviour to anchor my future.
Some time later, the opportunity came while I was on board a bus, during a school trip to Cameron Highlands with my classmates. God had arranged for me to sit beside a friend who had recently become a Christian. I seized that precious moment, and I asked her to lead me in the Sinner’s prayer, right there on board the bus!
Fast forward - it has been more than 45 years since then, and it still amazes me how the Lord arranged those events to reach out to a lost soul like me - a poor lost soul tucked away somewhere in a remote corner of the earth. Truly, as the Word of God says: God has sent His Son Jesus to seek the lost, to save them and to bring them back to Himself (Luke 19:10). This is so amazing – God has found me and I am no longer lost. Thank you, Lord Jesus!
