God Has A Plan for Your Life
Testimony by Jessica Yeow
There are many first-time experiences as we go through different life stages, whether they be good or bad. For example, in my first pregnancy, I experienced God's healing and presence through the strong support of our brethren from the cell group. I cannot imagine how I could have gone through that chapter of my life without God.
Can you remember the first bible verse that we learnt for the scripture memory exercise? Yes, it’s the verse from Jeremiah 29:11 shared by Bro York Sing.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
When I went through my first retrenchment in 2019, God touched me once again through the fulfilment of His promises.
In July 2019, our team was informed by our HOD that there was a mandate to cut our team headcount from 4 to 3 by Sept 2019. We were told to submit our respective applications for the various positions available. Needless to say, we were all shocked by the news.
Indeed, in life, many events are not within our control. However, our God is faithful in all situations so I committed my situation to God in prayer. As I prayed, the bible verse in Jeremiah 29:11 came to mind.
With prayer and God’s word, I sensed peace in my heart to leave the bank where I was working. This was amazing as I would never leave a job without first securing a new job. Moreover, to uproot myself from this company where I had worked for 11 years and to start afresh was not going to make it easier.
However, I decided to trust in Him and proceeded to inform my HOD that I would not be applying for the positions and would like to be made redundant to receive the severance package.
In Aug, I received the retrenchment letter. Due to the timeline to meet the reduced headcount, I only needed to serve 1 month’s notice and would receive an additional month’s salary in lieu of notice. All in all, I received over a year’s salary inclusive of my severance pay.
Although it was a good deal, from time to time, the worry of whether I could get a job hit me. I had to consciously shake off the feeling of discouragement and remind myself of God’s promises. God is greater than our circumstances and what He has done in the past, He will do it again.
Towards the 3rd week of my notice period, I got a call from a head hunter to explore a role in a private bank. And things happened really fast. Before my last day, I had already secured the job offer with a good increment over my last pay. My HOD was telling me that he could be my referral if I needed and when I told him that I had already found a job, he was shocked.
I hope you will be encouraged by this sharing, especially if you are going through challenging times or uncertainty. God is sovereign and in control of every situation. Indeed, He has a plan for you and will work things out for you in His perfect time.
