Preacher: Ps Sing Sing
Title: To Continue the work of Jesus
To Continue the work of Jesus
Breakthrough Mission rocks!
I am constantly amazed how anointed the Mission is, for each time when Ps Sing Sing preaches, his enthusiasm and energy are like those of new converts. They spill over. This is despite him being wheel-chair bound and getting on in age. This morning’s event was made all the more poignant because of the testimony of a 67 year-old brother who was part of Ps Sing Sing’s entourage. He shared that from the age of 14 until as recent as late 2023, he had been in and out of drug rehabilitation centres due to his addiction. As a result of his long stays at the centres, both his parents passed away, although at different times, while he was incarcerated and he regretted he never had the chance to apologise to them personally. He said that this time he knew he would not relapse as his drug-free stay with Breakthrough Mission had been the longest, more than a year. Our brother gave all glory of his change to God.
This morning’s biblical references were taken from John 4:31-34 and Matt 28:19-20.
Ps Sing Sing started by pointing out that in John 4, the context in which Jesus replied to his disciples in Verse 32, showed that his disciples were very much caught up with the world of human concerns of physical sustenance and such. They were of course ignorant as to what Jesus was talking about which is captured in Verse 33.
Ps Sing Sing then shared 3 aspects of what it means to continue the work of Jesus. For each of the 3 aspects, he provided supporting biblical references.
The first was to examine what the work of Jesus was. This was unpacked as firstly, ‘the son of man came to seek and save the lost’. Secondly, it was ‘to spread the Kingdom good news’.
The second aspect was to examine why we need to continue the work of Jesus. This, he shared was a command from God.
The third aspect was to ask ‘How do we continue the work of Jesus?’ Ps Sing Sing shared 3. The first was to live out our life testimonies. The second was to love others with actions and the third was to use our mouths to share the gospel.
What grabbed my attention was his anecdote of a Grab driver. One day the driver responded to a ride not knowing that the one who was in his car was a pastor. The driver proceeded to play a piece of Christian music and then asked the pastor if he wouldn’t mind listening to his testimony. Then when he had finished, he invited the pastor to his church. The pastor then revealed who he was and commended the driver that he had used his car as a ‘gospel vehicle’.
The above anecdote has a powerful lesson, for it shows us how we can leverage our secular work to continue the work of Jesus.
