Title: Glorify God with “Such good Lives”
Glorify God with “Such good Lives”
The biblical reference for this morning’s message was taken from 1 Peter 2:12.
This morning, Bro Dan delivered a light and salt message. He shed light through his many relevant personal anecdotes which helped many of us to illuminate our own lives and to identify with his shared experiences. He was salt through his personal admission that his own life was a life still being moulded after Jesus.
He started by giving 2 examples: an army torchlight with different coloured filters to emit just the right amount of light in the jungle and a little girl giving up her seat in the MRT. Both are not earth-shattering events which only a few could do but all could do as Christians shining our little light.
He then went on to explain what ‘such good lives’ from the biblical reference is and he gave 2 examples of his colleagues who left a deep impression on him. The first was a colleague who, though he had only a few months left due to cancer, was determined to do whatever he could with a project entrusted to him. The second was a colleague who never spoke ill of the company. These are ‘such good lives’.
Next, Bro Dan lamented that most of us would react and respond according to the mood of the day or how others treat us. He said that we should take reference from the phrase ‘whatever happens” from Philippians 1:27. In other words be as consistent as Jesus. He then shed light on what we should do, should we suffer attacks from others and it is to just ‘keep quiet’ and let God fight for us (Exodus 14:14). Next, he asked what we should do when we are angry and the answer is still ‘keep quiet’. For that we can take reference from Ps 4:4. Next, we should also learn to accept and forgive and we should be thankful for the blessing of our salvation. He shared in a seemingly light-hearted manner how a colleague tried to harm him and it took him some time to finally forgive her when God reminded him that He forgave those who harmed Him at the cross.
In conclusion he shared a quote from Amy Carmichael and a story of the founder of the Salvation Army. I share Amy’s quote below for it’s also my gem for today to be a little light of the earth.
"If the praise of others elates me and their blame depresses me; if I cannot rest under misunderstanding without defending myself; if I love to be loved more than to love, to be served more than to serve, then I know nothing of Calvary love.
If I take offence easily; if I am content to continue in cold unfriendliness, though friendship be possible, then I know nothing of Calvary love."
