Preacher: Pastor Lam
Title: Do Great Things for the Lord
Do Great Things for the Lord
This morning’s message was based on 1 Corinthians 3: 10-17.
Pastor Lam took great pains to unpack the biblical reference stated above. To give it a context, he provided a historical perspective by even pointing backwards to 1 Corinthians 1 and 2 which shows the bickering among the believers that Paul was referring to. He cut to the chase by showing that the real reason behind the quarrels merely reflected the weakness of man’s one-upmanship, each one thinking that his/her ways more superior to others.
Pastor Lam then went on to discuss 1 Cor 3 where we see man’s works in building for God. Although various materials man would use were cited in the Bible, the focus should be on the saving grace of God, the very foundation Jesus has built. According to Pastor Lam, man’s building for God can come under two ministries: foundational and built-up. Foundational ministry includes evangelism which seeks to share the full gospel, believers’ rights and responsibility and the notion of baptism, whereas built-up ministry includes works like worship service, Sunday school, cell group, visitations etc. It is thus of paramount importance to focus on foundational work because it points the way to the Great Commission.
The gem which I found in this morning’s message was ‘the source of blessings is with me’. I wonder how many of us constantly think that we ourselves are sources of blessings. Come to think of it, ‘aren’t we powerhouses for God?’
