Title: John 4:34
John 4:34
This morning’s biblical reference was taken from John 4:34. Ps Lawrence also gave the context of John 4 in which Jesus’ conversation with a Samaritan woman must have been frowned upon even by his disciples as the Jewish community felt the Samaritans were beneath them, more so a woman of dubious character. They probably tried to distract Him with an offer of food but He told them that "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work”.
Ps Lawrence was engaging in every sense of the word. He would walk around members of the congregation asking questions. For such a speaker, not having slides was immaterial as the congregation was still with him throughout.
He asked a very important question after the lead-in comprising 2 jokes: are you a member of the church and also a member of the kingdom of Heaven? To me it is a vital question that each of us must address individually.
Following that I think he also brought up an important point and that is the difference most people would feel with regards to the pastor of a church in full-time ministry as compared to ordinary church members. The latter might feel that because they are not serving full-time as they have secular full-time jobs, sharing the gospel to unbelievers isn’t material. This, he felt, needed to be made right. Therefore he said it is immaterial what our full-time jobs are as long as we see our commitment is to the mission field. He is saying that our full-time jobs can certainly co-exist with our work in the mission field.
His next all important question asked members of the congregation when the last time was that they witnessed to someone. He said it is good that we surround ourselves with both Christian and non-Christian friends as we can then witness to the non-believers.
The next point Ps Lawrence made was that while God loves us and is not in a hurry to deal with us, our work in the mission field is urgent.
Hence we must open our eyes to see that the harvest in the field is ready and we are all already anointed for the task at hand.
