Title: You say, I listen. I say, You hear
You say, I listen. I say, You hear
Wow! Just wow! And when I learn to walk with Him and see things falling into place, I see an increase in my communication and a more intimate relationship with Him. This was how I felt after listening to Ps Daniel’s message this morning.
The Lord chose Ps Daniel to deliver a message that stood out because of its simplicity that I would like to summarise into this: Unceasing prayer simply means an intimate relationship with God in good times and bad, with constant 2-way communication that also hinges not just on Him listening to all our supplications but also us not just listening to Him but acting out after that. To many of us, that ‘acting out’ can be really hard.
In that simplicity was a lead-in that made a lot of sense and I dare say, the anchor of the message. This was the history on God’s relationship with man which Ps Daniel shared. He shared that God wants intimacy with man and this was witnessed in Adam and Eve before their original sin. Then there was the tabernacle which Moses built to house Him, followed by the temple Solomon built which was destroyed by the Romans. Then God sent the Holy Spirit to live in us. This shows His constant desire to live among men, even in the future as evidenced by the Bible in Rev 21:3.
Ps Daniel asked the congregation when do we know God is with us in our prayers. He quoted Philippians 4: 6-7 to answer that. He said often when we pray, we remember Verse 6 but forget about Verse 7. He said that we have to pray until we receive that peace which transcends all understanding.
Ps Daniel also asked the congregation how do we know what God wants in our prayers. For that, he said we have to listen to Him too. Remember it is not a one-way relationship of us just sending Him a list of what WE want in our prayers, but we NEED to listen to Him too.
Each step of the way, Ps Daniel quoted biblical references and shared anecdotes to better illustrate what he was sharing.
To me this morning’s message was especially poignant as when Ps Daniel shared that one can communicate with God during prayers like one is talking to a friend, it reminded me of what my wife did during our daily prayers some months back. At one point, she began to share with God all the little details which I got uncomfortable with but it was a good thing that I did not object.
God was looking at me squarely this morning when I stood in for my missus to chair the morning’s worship in her absence as she was unwell. He created the stage for me to embrace my missus’ prayer conversations in her absence. It was a worthy testimony for both of us.
The intimacy God wants is beyond prayers. Don’t we want that?
