Title: Jesus’ Prayer Habit
Jesus’ Prayer Habit
We can’t go wrong learning from the master himself. Hence, this morning’s message was like a master class on prayers and representing Him to conduct the class was Bro Isaac.
After a brief lead-in on the importance of prayers from the individual level to the nation and the definition of ‘habit’, Bro Isaac shared that the first time the Bible referred to Jesus’ praying was by the river of Jordan as captured in Luke 3:21-22. Then with that anointing He started His great work.
Bro Isaac then established with the congregation the importance of prayers before sharing 4 aspects of Jesus’ prayer habit.
-
Prayers bring Power
This is shown in Luke 24:49 and Acts 1:8 but we need to come humbly before Him to acknowledge our dependence on Him for that power. -
Prayers bring Renewal
This is illustrated by Luke 4:42 and Mark 1:35. Indeed these references highlighted that it was still early in the morning when Jesus would leave everything behind to pray. I dare say if anyone has Jesus’ discipline, he/she would reap much. Bro Isaac also pointed out to the congregation that Jesus had done much work within this period and would rightly be weary or He could also choose to be basking in His glory but neither weariness nor glory would excuse Him from praying. -
Making prayers a priority (Luke 5:15-16)
Most times, when we encounter a problem, we dive straight into the problem and we will pray only after we have ‘prioritised’ our problems. We need to do it in reverse. -
Pray fervently (Luke 6:12)
Bro Isaac said that this aspect of prayer reminds him of Jacob and how he wrestled with God to bless him. He also shared Luke 6:12-13 on how Jesus spent the whole night praying and when morning came he was ready to name his 12 disciples who together with Him, made all the difference to the world.
My takeaway from this morning’s message was not Jesus loved to pray but it was clear that Jesus understood the supreme importance of having to pray and he certainly demonstrated that through His words, behaviour and demeanour. How consistent our God is!
