Title: Jesus’ Prayer Habit
Jesus’ Prayer Habit
For this write-up I felt strongly I should start with my learning points first. And so I learnt at least 3 things from Bro Isaac’s message this morning.
The first was that prayer ought to be a 2-way communication between man and God and most times I am guilty of merely giving a whole list of prayer requests and then move off after that. Never did I ask what He would want me to do. The second was that prayer helps us to self-reflect, especially on the negative aspects of ourselves, for there is a tendency for us to see only the faults of others but not ourselves. The third was that we need to ask ourselves in the midst of our ‘busyness’, how much is that given to God.
Today’s message was in essence, part 2 of what Bro Isaac preached about on 21st September 2025. He started by refreshing the minds of the congregation with regards to his previous message. You can read my write-up of that message too.
For this instalment, the first point that Bro Isaac spoke on with regards to Jesus’ prayer habits was on humility. He used Matt 14:23 as the backdrop and he said that it was at this point that Jesus was at the height of His glory for He had just fed the 5000 with only 5 loaves and 2 fishes. Instead of basking in that glory, Jesus retreated to the mountain to pray. Then Bro Isaac reminded the congregation of the contents of our prayers too. It should be God-centred and full with gratitude.
The next point was on fellowship. While at times Jesus prayed alone, there were times He was praying with His disciples too. Likewise while we might pray alone at times, there are times we pray with a partner or even corporately. Prayer cements the bonds among those who pray together for in the process of praying all involved would understand one another better. It also promotes church growth.
The third and last point was that His prayer habits could bring about transformation. This could be life-transforming, from the old to the new and we become more Christ-like.
He ended sharing with the congregation that perhaps some of us felt our prayers are not ‘mature’ enough. He said all of us should always reach out to Him in humility to guide us in our prayers.
