Title: How Far Will You Go in Prayer?
How Far Will You Go in Prayer?
Bro Johnny Chin is new to speak at our Sunday service and it certainly was a fresh treat from God to have him preach.
He kept very much to the title of his message and highlighted 2 attitudes in support of it.
The first attitude was pray in ‘desperation’ and he quoted 3 biblical characters who were desperate for Jesus’ help. The first was Bartimaeus, who had been blind and was desperate enough to cry out to God to heal him. The next was Jairus, who in wanting to save his daughter’s life, fell at Jesus’ feet and pleaded with Him to save her. The third was a woman who had been bleeding issues for 12 years and had seen many doctors but to no avail. She knew Jesus was passing by and stretched out her hand to touch His cloak. All 3 were healed.
Bro Johnny asked the congregation what happened when others requested us to pray for them. The stock responses would be ‘I’ll keep you in my prayers’ or we responded with some emojis to that effect. He then asked whether we did really pray and not only that but did we pray in desperation for those who covet our prayers too.
The second attitude was ‘persistence’. Bro Johnny quoted Bartimaeus again because the crowd actually told him to be quiet when he cried out to Jesus. However, he shouted even louder showing persistence. He then likened the prayer efforts of some of us to putting tokens or coins into a vending machine expecting an instant outcome every time. ‘What do we do if nothing comes out of it?’ Because sometimes that is the outcome as sometimes it might take years before our prayers are answered.
Hence not only must we pray without ceasing, there are times we pray out of desperation and with persistence.
