Preacher: Mrs Dorothy Kao
Title: God’s Precious Gift
God’s Precious Gift
This biblical reference for this morning’s Mother’s Day message was taken from Proverbs 31:28-30.
I think the church assigned a most appropriate person to deliver this year’s Mother’s Day message and she is none other than Mrs Dorothy Kao. She certainly has that motherly look and a formidable air.
She began by sharing the history how Mother’s Day came about and then she went on to share 3 types of mothers: 1) The Godly Mother, 2) The Muddled Mother and 3) The Mother with Wisdom.
Mrs Kao shared that her own mother took about 30 years before she finally accepted Jesus at the age of 90 and she was comforted that at least the last 4 years of her life was devoted to God. Despite her late acceptance she felt that her mum was a Godly Mother. In reference to the ‘muddled’ mother, Mrs Kao was actually referring to Rebecca, the mother of Jacob. She taught Jacob to lie to his father, Isaac, so as to steal the birthright from Esau, his brother. We are certainly not to follow the example of the ‘Muddled Mother’. Then Mrs Kao mentioned that a mother is certainly responsible for what the child would turn out to be. She used the analogy of the children being empty vessels and they would contain what their mothers pour into them. A wise mother would know what to fill the empty vessels of their children with. That would certainly be a Mother of Wisdom.
In a big way, Mrs Kao’s message this morning was reinforced by Ps Png who gave a testimony of her own mother who passed away at the age of 49. It was a moving testimony of a woman who had sacrificed much to bring up her 13 children. Although Ps Png questioned God for her mother’s demise at that point in time, God had put that episode behind her by a dream which had reassured her that she is indeed with Him and in a better place.
Although Mrs Kao’s message this morning was short, I like her balanced approach which included an example that we are not to follow in the bible.
