Preacher: Ps Daniel Foo
Title: Give God the Glory
Give God the Glory
It is Ps Daniel’s maiden message in SCC and I pray he will be invited again. He heads the Cantonese service in his own church and I believe he will be equally conversant in that dialect. In fact God spoke so powerfully through him, he simply exemplified the phrase ‘practise what you preach’.
He began with the biblical reference 1Corinthians 10:31. However, Ps Daniel set out in the introduction that God does not need the glory of man and as humans we are unable to glorify Him UNLESS …. It is important to note the caveat of the previous sentence which sets out the core of his message.
He shared on the chief purpose of God creating man and quoted Isaiah 43:6-7. Then he quoted John17:22 to show that Jesus has given us the glory so that we can live out the image and likeness of God’s glory to reflect and display God’s glory. Ps Daniel shared that the presence of God is never far from man (1 Corinthians 6:19) but we often look high and low for Him. In fact He is in us and he said, tongue in cheek, that often times when we pray, we look to the sky when we should be looking inward at ourselves.
Ps Daniel then focused on the life of Jesus. He quoted John 8:29 and John 5 :19-21 to show how intertwined Jesus’ life was with God. In fact so intertwined were they, it was a death life for Jesus for he was always doing his Father’s work to glorify Him. Then by extension if we want to follow Jesus, the same life is ours to behold for it is only by listening, following and obeying God’s will and completing God’s work can glory be given to God and God be glorified. That was the caveat I referred to in the introduction. Just before concluding his message Ps Daniel shared a framework which summarises the core of this morning’s message. In a nutshell, to glorify God, we need to listen attentively, obey carefully and finishing the work.
Throughout the message, Ps Daniel peppered his message with relevant personal anecdotes to bear out the church’s theme ‘do all to the glory of God’ and yet, not once, did I hear or notice that God took a back seat to Ps Daniel. My favourite was God’s prompting him to use vegetable oil in casting out demons in China as he did not carry olive oil with him then. The dedication of all the miraculous events that he shared was always to His glory.
