Title: A Father with Influence
A Father with Influence
This morning’s service was also to celebrate Father’s Day and it caught me completely by surprise in the sense that I thought my work involving the write-up was over with the main message but it was not to be; for Ps Png delivered a mini sermon after the main that not only complemented but enhanced the message by Ps Sing Sing. In other words, to get what the Holy Spirit was doing, one cannot do without the other. To me it was perfection that only God knew how and what to do.
Ps Sing Sing’s main biblical reference was taken from Joshua 24:15.
Ps Sing Sing’s lead-in was light-hearted as he told some anecdotes regarding the difference between people’s ideas of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and how some fathers felt they were treated like delivery workers or even ATMs by their children. He also spoke on the roles of mothers and fathers and the impact of absentee fathers in the lives of some children on the one hand and those fathers who keep too close an eye on their children on the other. He also listed some good traits of a good father.
He then turned the congregation’s attention to the focus on the two points that were the pillar of his sermon this morning. The first was to choose whom you want to serve (Joshua 24:14-15) and the other, to thank God of his grace (Joshua 24:12-13). Once we take the steps to commit our children to God, they will know their ways in this troubled world and that would beat whatever goodness we will have in store for them. It was sobering in the sense that many would have fallen short as fathers.
Ps Png came in to share about her own absentee father who was an alcoholic too. Although he worked as a medium and was in constant conflict with her, she felt there was an occasion that he had done good and that was to buy her a gold chain with a cross. She felt that from this experience, her late father did love her and despite his own belief, the cross showed he accepted Ps Png’s spiritual undertaking.
Ps Sing Sing held the fathers to some exact standards expected of fathers and Ps Png provided the grace.
This week’s sermon is another evidence of the unusual way the Holy Spirit works.
