Preacher: Ps Daniel Foo
Title: Who do you think I am?
Who do you think I am?
For me, this morning’s message was like a tangible reunion with God leading to a reaffirmation of our identity in Christ. It is important as claiming that identity leads to victorious living.
Ps Daniel took much effort to help the congregation understand the terms ‘believer’, ‘disciple’ and ‘Christian’. He did this by going into the historical perspective as indicated in the Bible.
It was an important lead-in as dictated by the title of his message. However, what is more important at the end of the day is our full knowledge of the fact that we are sons and daughters of God. Knowing that comes with an authority that only God can confer on each of us.
He then quoted many personal experiences how God honoured him in his secular experiences both in China and locally.
For me, my personal takeaways are shared below.
As Christians we should not have to worry about who we are so long as we know that we are children of God. To me that is powerful for many of us see our identities being tied to our roles at work, families and what not. These are temporal state of affairs and so when we are no longer working, what do we see ourselves as?
The devil does not want us to identify with God because he knows that Name and has no authority over us once we identify with Him.
Ps Daniel then asked the congregation a most pertinent question: when are you going to exercise that God-given authority as His children?
Before concluding, he remarked that it seems there are fewer apparent cases of demon possession these days. He then said perhaps, the devil’s possession of people comes in the form of hand phones these days. It’s hard to dispute that.
