Prayer of Faith, Hope and Love
The biblical reference for Ps Humphrey’s message was taken from 1 Thes 1:2-3. I like how he kept to the church’s theme and preached such a powerful message of hope despite a sobering beginning note.
The sobering note was on the second coming of Christ and the question asked what then would happen to those who died before His second coming. The answer was provided in 1 Thes 4:13-15 and 16-18. Then there are also those who thought that since Jesus would come again why bother to continue to toil and Ps Humphrey provided 3 things that we can do with prayer while waiting for the Lord’s return.
The first is Serving Continually with Faith. By this he meant both our spiritual and secular work and Eccles 11:1 and 6 and 2 Thes 3:10-12 bear testimonies to that.
The second is to Labour Continually in Love. This is despite that we have to toil all our lives as a result of the Original sin. We must know that God permits this and in our suffering, we glorify Him too.
The third is to Endure Continually with Hope. It is here where Ps Humphrey shared the very apt Chinese story of the ‘Hall of 100 Patience’ where an abbot was helping his worker put up a sign. While doing it, a child tugged his trousers 3 times to ask him what the sign meant and by the third time, he was losing his patience with the child. The child had to remind the abbot on the content of the signage he was putting up while mentioning that he was asking only the third time.
In conclusion, Ps Humphrey shared 4 bulleted points:
- When we don’t feel like praying, that’s when we need to pray the most
- Worry is a conversation you have with yourself about things you cannot change.
- Prayer is a conversation you have with God about the things He can change.
- Therefore, turn your worries into prayers, and God will turn your prayers into blessings and solutions.
