Preacher: Rev Yee
Title: Pray Without Ceasing
Pray Without Ceasing
The biblical reference for this morning’s message is from 1 Thes 5:17.
Rev Yee likened our prayer life to be like a credit card which we can use often to purchase things but unlike the bank which will send us a bill to ask us to settle our account, God will never send us a bill, but more of a Bill of Grace. He also reminded the congregation that nothing is too small for God and if we only go to God with our big requests then we run the risk of forgetting the small ones which the devil may use to further his cause to draw us away from God. And if you feel that God is not answering our prayers, perhaps we have sinned and it’s time to seek forgiveness to start anew.
Rev Yee dealt with the differences between our belief and the other religions. The latter often stipulate a fixed time and place to pray to their gods but not ours. We can pray anytime and anywhere and without ceasing too.
He went through 6 points what praying without ceasing is not. It:
- Is Not that one cannot stop and do it continuously
- Is Not affected by Location
- Is Not affected by Time
- Is Not it must be Spoken
- Is Not a Prescribed Prayer and
- Is Not a Formula
Next he went through 6 points to highlight what praying without ceasing is:
- It is the breath of spiritual life (living people have breath)
- It is an indicator of the relationship with God
- It is the secret of relying on God to be victorious in life struggles
- It is to constantly "refuel" (recharge) the spiritual life
- It is spiritual alertness/awareness of the prompting of the Holy Spirit
- It is living out our prayer: life is the content of prayer
Rev Yee then focused on the applications of praying without ceasing in our prayer life. He asked us to reflect using the questions below:
- Do you feel like your prayers are "routine" and lack sincerity?
- Do you tend to neglect prayer when you're busy or feeling down?
Next he asked the congregation how we can incorporate "unceasing prayer" into our daily life?
We are to grab hold of God’s promises because of Ps 34:17 and to follow Jesus’s example for, in the midst of His busy ministry, He would often retreat to a quiet place to pray.
In conclusion Rev Yee said, "Praying without ceasing" is not a burden, but a grace that allows us to experience God's presence and power at any time. "Praying without ceasing" is a spiritual exercise in Christian life and the secret to walking with God. It does not require complicated rituals, but only a heart that longs for God.
Let us learn to "pray without ceasing” anytime and anywhere in our daily lives, to open up to God and experience His grace and leading.
