Preacher: Ps Santar Singh
Title: More than Conquerors
More than Conquerors
The main biblical reference for Ps Santar’s message was taken from Romans 8:28 - 39.
He began by a reference to the fall of man after the original sin, which included death and emptiness, a life of condemnation, guilt, shame and judgement. However, he said all these were wiped out with Romans 8:1 and not only that, all believers would end up ‘more than conquerors’. (Romans 8:37)
However, before this happened, Ps Santar told the congregation to look at Romans 7: 1-6 for the spiritual perspective of the bondage of sin. Here, he took the congregation through what it meant to be under the law of the land which was enacted for man to live in harmony with one another and it was only through death that one can be free. The biblical example here is on a married woman’s tie to her husband could only be broken when her husband had died. He also shared a relevant anecdote how a traffic summon for an offence in India reached a man seven years after he had passed away. Naturally his family members did not bother to pay the summon as his death would render it null and void. However, with sin, no man can ever overcome it. With this as a context, when Jesus died and rose again, we are in a new relationship with the resurrected Christ.
It is a relationship that promises us the fruits of life which are characterised by four things:
- Indwelling Spirit of God in us
- Our adoption as children of God
- We are helped in our weaknesses for example the Holy Spirit helping to intercede on our behalf when we do not know how to pray
- Despite our brokenness, God is able to work through all that for good
Again, Ps Santar shared a relevant anecdote here. He said in the course of his work, he had met many people who were victims of abuse. He met a woman in the UK who was one such victim but through God’s grace, she now has a ministry serving women who are victims of abuse.
Next, Ps Santar shared 3 powerful things that believers can experience to be more than conquerors and these are:
- Divine favour
- Divine justice and
- Divine love
This is because God is for us to remove all condemnations. No one can bring a charge against us except God who took the sinful judgement of man unto Himself and no one can separate the love between God and man.
He concluded by saying that Paul was fully persuaded by the scriptures in Romans for, of all people , he could have been condemned by God because before he became a Christian he was persecuting God himself.
