Title: Chance
Chance
If we want to know what it means to take chances in life, look no further than the lives of our brothers from Breakthrough Mission. These were once lives on the brink and when we listen to their testimonies, what goes on through our mind? Are we struck with awe and wonder if God can do so much for them why can’t He do the same for me? (After all I think I sin less as I don’t do drugs or whatever major crimes). Or are we already numb to a world of sins and even testimonies such as these don’t move us anymore and life goes on?
The biblical reference for this morning’s message was from Luke 2:8-20. The congregation was also treated to 2 songs sung by a brother from Breakthrough Mission and whose own testimony was sandwiched by the two songs.
In his introduction, Ps Sing Sing’s sharing of the lyrics of the song that won the first prize in a song-writing contest in prison speaks of one who yearns deeply for another chance to do life right. Both his message and song shares the same title.
He then went on to share two complementary perspectives on ‘chance’: the God who give people chance’ and ‘cherish the chance to serve’.
His use of biblical examples of the common shepherds being chosen to receive the great news of Jesus’s birth and his personal testimony illustrated the first perspective well. It goes to show that God doesn’t differentiate people to give chances. He is one who is not a religious leader but saviour.
Once we have received the great news it is our responsibility to share it.
